The Gallery Restaurant and Atlantic Terrace are located directly above the sea with a 180 degree panoramic view out to the Desertas Islands.

A fountain, fireplaces, a profusion of subtropical plants provide a colorful Madeiran ambience. 

 

The Sprotte Bar with fireplace and subtropical plants provides an intimate setting for drinks from 10.30 am to 11.30 pm. Daily Happy hour: 5 pm to 7 pm.

LEISURE ACTIVITIES:


SWIMMING: Several Atlantic bays rimmed by towering cliffs are ideal for swimming, snorkeling, scuba-diving and beaches are ideal for swimming, snorkeling and scuba-diving.


SCUBA-DIVING: For those interested in a more advanced scuba diving experience Inn and Art offers special rates for instruction and a diving package incl. 10 dives. The base is located in Madeira’s sole underwater nature reserve which is the only one in the Atlantic with the DIN-Certification (German-Industry-Norm). A few minutes’ walk from the Inn and Art Gallery Hotel.


GOLF: Inn and Art offers the golfer the ideal location between two golf clubs, Santo da Serra and Palheiro. It is a 15 minute drive to both clubs. All Inn and Art guests receive 10 per cent green fee deduction.

CLIMATE: Depending on the season: eighteen until twenty eight °C.

 

NEIGHBOURHOOD AMENITIES: Restaurants and bars located in the near neighborhood. Mini-markets, unisex hair salon, several souvenir shops, a-rent-a car agency, cash machine, express and local bus stop. Super-markets, a shopping center, banks, pharmacy, a variety of shops are located two km. away in Canico. Daily mass is held in the R.C.church.

 

SEASONAL HIGHLIGHTS:


Starting on 6 December more than one million lights illuminate the city of Funchal, outlining rooftops of houses and all public buildings and churches.


CHRISTMAS EVE: A special food and flower market is held in the "Zona Velha" presenting the Islands bounty. Tourists and Madeirans mingle and exchange Christmas greetings. All restaurants and bars are open all night offering special holiday meals.


NEW YEARS NIGHT: there is a spectacular fireworks display by the winner of the international fireworks competition each June in Funchal.


CARNIVAL: In February each town sponsors a parade, the principal one being held in Funchal. Thousands of Madeirans participate, many in colorful costumes, many on elaborately-decorated floats. Members of local samba clubs compete with each other for awards.


EASTER: Religious processions are held all over the Island. Among the most interesting are those in seaside villages where the statue of the Virgin is carried down to the sea and placed on a boat for a special prayer service to ensure good fortune.

FLOWER FESTIVAL: Two weeks following Easter, on a Saturday, children from all over the Island, their clothes decorated with flowers, meet in the Town Hall Square. As music is played, the children present bouquets of flowers with prayers for good fortune. An important feature of the Festival is the decoration of Avenida do Arriaga with thousands of flowers in various designs. The final event is a floral parade in which thousands of Madeirans, their costumes adorned with flowers, some on a decorated floats, dance in the streets. An award is presented in the Town Hall Square for the best costume, float and dancing.


SUMMER FIREWORKS COMPETION: Each Saturday evening in June there is an international competition for the best fireworks display. The winner will present the New Years Night fireworks.


MADEIRA WINE RALLEY: The annual sports car rally which is held all over the Island. On of the most important sport car champion chips events held in Europe.


CURAL DAS FREIRAS CHESTNUT FESTIVAL: Centuries ago chestnut trees were planted to stabilize the valleys soil. Each year there is a celebration at harvest time in the middle of October. Dancers in traditional costumes and musicians playing on old instruments perform the whole weekend. Chestnuts are used in many regional dishes-cakes, breads, soup, liquor, and simply roasted. Barbecue of Espetada is also served.


WINE FESTIVL: From the end of August until the end of September local festivals are held all over the Island as the grapes are harvested. In the middle of September, in Estreito do Camara do Lobos, on the mountain, all the villages and tourists if they wish participate in the pressing of the grapes. A dance competition is held for folkloric groups from all over the Island.
